Ageing and Despair: A Virtual Interdisciplinary Conference Event

Thursday, 3 September 2020 - 7:15pm

The McDonald Centre invites you to a virtual interdisciplinary conference event, which has been prepared in partnership with the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and the Oxford Healthcare Values Partnership:

Ageing and Despair: Towards Patience and Hope for Health and Care

The conference event includes recorded video presentations from an international group of scholars trained in a range of disciplines that includes those in the humanities, social sciences, and medical sciences, among other professional backgrounds including nursing and medicine. The speakers will offer reflections on the existential gravity of ageing and the art of dying. While the darker side of ageing is the gathering focus of the conference, speakers might also discuss the practices and virtues essential for overcoming despair and for ageing or dying well.

The video presentations will premiere throughout the day beginning 04 September 2020 at 9.00am (Oxford). These videos will remain available for the public to view after their premiere and through the end of the calendar year. Videos will remain available thereafter upon request.

Please do seek out further information about the conference, including the speakers, timetable for video premieres, and links to the respective presentations, go to the conference website at www.mcdonaldcentreconference.info. You will also find a printable programme (.pdf), which include the presentation timetable and speaker biographies on the conference website or through the following link, here.

Alternatively, you will find the presentation playlist at YouTube, here.
