The Rhodes Controversy, Continued

Monday, 6 September 2021 - 6:30pm

In April 2021 Oriel College published the report of its Commission of Inquiry into Issues Associated with Memorials to Cecil Rhodes: see here

In an Historical Appendix to the report, William Beinart, Rhodes Professor Emeritus of Race Relations at the University of Oxford, discussed a selection of controversial issues raised by Rhodes’ life and work, especially racial segregation and the violent ‘conquest’ of what is now called ‘Zimbabwe’. In response, Nigel Biggar has written a riposte, which can be found here.
